Everyone is, or soon will be, the recipient(s) of carefully curated messages from pretenders: non-human, computer-dispatched robots, indistinguishable from real people, all designed to sell you everything from products to political ideas. They won't really be messages from strangers because the algorithms that dispatched them will have learned more about you than you can imagine.
