NRA aside there is basic right of self defense. What other country has a 2nd amendment right? We should protect it. What did the Nazis do when they came to power? Confiscate the guns of all the Jews. See https://wyoleg.gov/InterimCommittee/2019/01-201910313-04Handout.pdf

Hal,

I agree with almost all your commentary, and appreciate the history. Although I think gun violence is a component of home schooling growth, I suspect that Covid and closing schools was a bigger driver. With parents working more from home, and legitimate concern's over the quality of a public school education, I suspect home schooling will continue to grow.

Ben Rinkey raises a legitimate point. There are, of course, many reasons that families decide to homeschool their children. However, according to the National Center for Education Statistics (IES), up to 25% of parents listed safe environment concerns as the major reason for homeschooling. With school shootings and peer-related crimes on the rise, more parents are choosing to educate their kids behind the walls of their homes. The major reason parents choose homeschooling, according to IES, is because they want to provide a safe learning environment for their kids. The dissatisfaction with the current academic system comes a close second, and religion serves as another primary reason for homeschooling.

Ben, do you know any home schoolers? Are they full of alienated kids who are on psychotropic drugs watching porn in their bedrooms and playing violent video games because of lockdowns? Or are they out in nature exploring and wondering at God's creation? (Maybe I misunderstood you comment, however the basic points are valid, -get outside more.)

Thank you for the background information on the NRA. The radical change in such a large organization is hard to understand - most members must not have a vote. I believe a real poll of all of the members would show a very different attitude towards gun training, safety, and regulations than what is promoted by the leadership today.
