I agree that the Republican Party has a grave problem. However I believe that there exists two much more serious issues.. At least half the country believes that the FBI and the DOJ operate on a double standard and trust in the media has been destroyed. These are existential problems that threaten the entire nation.

We went through this in the 60’s and I suspect we are in a similar situation today. The big concern is for it to not go too far.

It is time for the Republican Party to crash and burn and be rebuilt by people of good faith. Donald Trump is a criminal and a traitor. He tried to overturn our government. He rallied unhinged people to storm the Capitol. Nothing but conviction and time in prison for him and those who abetted him in his criminal activities will turn this country around.

Multiple things can be true at the same time. Trump has more flaws than I could list in this reply but on a percentage basis, his policies were also good for America. If the GOP ceases to exist, communist principles will govern America's future.

If you were responding to my post, please note that I stated that the Republican Party should be rebuilt by people of good faith. We need a strong two party system of government. However, the Republican Party has veered way too far to the right. They are making government the Big Brother of all of our citizens, getting into people’s personal lives by passing anti abortion laws, preventing parents from making medical decisions with their trans children’s doctors on treatments, etc. Next they may go after the same sex marriage law. The government has no business involving itself in people’s personal decisions.

I agree we need a two party system and that Big Brother should, for the most part, stay out of the way. That said, the purpose of govt. is to protect those who cannot protect themselves. I agree we need more centrist abortion laws along the lines of the EU at 15 or 16 weeks. Late term abortions of viable babies capable of living outside the womb is murder. Children are not mature enough to understand the ramifications of life long gender decisions and there is data showing up to 80% of those who experience gender dysphoria ultimately desire to remain fully functional in the biological gender. Children cannot buy alcohol until they're 21 years old. They can't get a tattoo or buy a firearm until 18. They can't drive a car until 16. But it's okay to have men with crossdressing fetishes coupled with a desire to exhibit their fetishes in front of and near young children? I, and many other parents, and grandparents say, "NO". We're going influence or allow adults to influence children and allow life impacting procedures such as mastectomies, testicle removal and sterilizing puberty blockers to be performed on children far too young to fully understand the impact of the decisions being made? I, and many other parents and grandparents, say "NO". Also, parents, not teachers nor school administrators, are the primary stakeholders regarding the welfare of their children. https://www.transgendertrend.com/children-change-minds/

I recall reading an article in Psychology Today WAY before Trump was forever in national headlines where they described a Malignant Narcissist as a ‘Destroyer…of families, of countries, of Worlds’. Even his niece, Psychologist Mary Trump, has named him a Malignant Narcissist, I guess Psychology Today knew what they were talking about.

It's my position that The DOJ Functions as Both a Law Enforcement Agency & an Organized Criminal Enterprise. I'm not even a Trump supporter for the 2024 nomination nor did I support him for the 2016 nomination. I voted for Cruz in the primaries and Trump in the general. I'm NOT saying Trump is ethical or that Trump hasn't done things which I believe are wrong. My beef is the different standards employed by our DOJ-FBI & federal institutions similar to those of foreign law enforcement & intelligence agencies. In the article, I thoroughly explain my reasoning. No one on God's green earth can logically justify the differing standards for different people dependent on political positions or the agendas of those involved. https://paulwilks.substack.com/p/the-doj-functions-as-both-a-law-enforcement

Wonderful commentary about the power of our government. I might also add one more example. This is the story of how our government destroyed the lives of 84,000 innocent individuals in 85 countries around the world when they falsely indicted Arthur Andersen, the largest accounting firm in the world. The Supreme Court later overruled the decision in a 9-0 vote, but it was too late. The firm was already gone.

Susan Duman. I keep thinking that you've described it as well as a human being could, and then you come up with another essay that informs in even better language, with no attempt to embelish, exactly is happening. When this becomes history, after our time, I hope the best writers of that generation will utilize your extraordinary language. Words matter!

1st, regarding the NYC indictment - I think many if not most observers believe that was totally a political issue and not worthy of the legal process. On the other hand, it seems to me that the issue of mishandling classified docs is fairly cut and dried - he did or did not violate document handling laws. I think he did, but that remains to be seen through the legal process. While supporting center or right-of-center candidates I want our laws upheld. I think that ought to apply to both Republican AND Democrat candidates. Today, the view of many is that it is not evenly applied.

To me, the best outcome today would be for a plea bargain where Trump agrees to never again be a candidate for public office in exchange for no acknowledgement of criminal action.
